Our target
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA across this website, and we treat that as a target we assess as the site changes, not a badge to earn once. Automated accessibility checks run against every public page, in several browsers, as part of the test suite a release has to pass. Automated checks do not establish full conformance, so this page says what has been tested and what has not.
What we do and test
- Semantic structure
- One top-level heading per page, headings in order, landmarks for navigation, content and footer, and a skip link as the first thing you can focus. Controls are native buttons and links; tables and lists are real tables and lists, with captions and headers. We review whether those structures communicate the content correctly.
- Keyboard operability
- Recorded keyboard checks cover the header, the mobile menu, the skip link, each demonstration and the contact form. Each demonstration uses the controls shown with it: some have Back and Next buttons, and some have step buttons that also respond to the arrow keys.
- Visible focus
- Controls show a visible focus ring, including over the site’s darker scenes, where the ring sits on its own plate. We review its visibility on both light and dark surfaces.
- Reduced motion
- If your system asks for reduced motion, the site responds with static or reduced-motion presentations: stories show their finished state with every step listed, and nothing types itself out or drifts. Our review includes checking that information is available without waiting for an animation.
- Text alternatives
- Product scenes and demonstrations carry written descriptions of what they show, and purely decorative marks are hidden from assistive technology. We continue to assess the reading order and the equivalent information in the more complex scenes.
- Colour
- Wherever a colour carries meaning (a status, a delivery state, a lamp beside a label), the word carries it too. Automated checks test text contrast against the AA thresholds, but the current evidence does not cover every rendered surface and state.
- Target sizes
- Controls are designed for keyboard and touch use, and we assess target size and spacing against the WCAG 2.2 requirements and their exceptions. Hover is never the only way to reach something.
- Zoom and reflow
- Layouts use relative units and are designed to reflow to a narrow phone width; wide data tables scroll within their own labelled region. Manual checks so far include a 200 % zoom spot check; fuller text-spacing, reflow and zoom checks are still to be recorded.
- Without scripts
- With scripting turned off, the pages and the synthetic demonstration content remain available as static content. Interactive effects need JavaScript.
- Testing
- The test suite runs automated checks on every public page in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit on desktop and in two emulated mobile profiles. It fails on serious or critical findings, a threshold that does not cover every WCAG requirement, and it does not check contrast in the emulated mobile WebKit profile, where the tool cannot measure it reliably. Recorded manual checks cover keyboard navigation and motion preferences.
Known limitations
- A completed manual screen-reader assessment is not recorded for this release. We will update this statement as that testing is completed, and say what it finds and what alternatives are available.
- Mobile testing has used emulated devices rather than a range of physical handsets. Something that behaves differently on your phone is worth telling us about.
- On desktop Safari, plain Tab does not move focus to links unless the browser is set to allow it: a browser setting, not something the site can change.
Report a barrier
To report a barrier, or to ask for information in another format or another way to arrange a preview, email us. Tell us the page or task and the format or help that would work for you; browser or assistive-technology details are welcome but not required. We will discuss an alternative with you and track the issue.
